I know I said I would be posting every couple of weeks, but with our next ministry day coming up this Saturday morning, I wanted to check in with you about chapter 3 in The Dude’s Guide to Manhood. From here on out my contact with you will be closer to the every couple of week range.
Chapter 3 is titled, “Train, Don’t Just Try: Become a Disciplined Man”
I would like to consider myself “disciplined”, but after reading this chapter and examining myself I feel like a MMA fighter who has just been through a 3-round war! I still believe I am disciplined, but it is NOT a one-punch knockout for me. I know I have a long way to go in this area.
Hebrews 12:11 says, “For the moment all discipline seems PAINFUL rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” IF we are truly seeking to grow in Christlikness as men, we will seek to grow in the area of discipline. This will affect EVERY area of our lives and EVERY relationship in our lives! Not only will fighting through the pain of being disciplined change us, but it will influence everyone around us. Our brothers, our wives, our children, and everyone that we are in contact with will be impacted and moved towards Christlikness too!
I ask you. Are you trying or are you training?! Let us be men characterized by lives of discipline.
Please pray for me as I seek to be a disciplined man of God and I will be praying the same for you.
Here is a quote, from page 33, for you to think about as you finish your reading and prepare for battle this week. “Discipline trains us in the art of focusing on our real needs instead of being obsessed with our felt needs. To be disciplined is to learn to say no to the quick fix in lieu of the better reward.”
Shoulder to shoulder with you,
