A Loving, Mighty King

Psalm 99:4 (ESV) – The King in his might loves justice…

Good and gracious Father, we thank you that you are a mighty king, mighty over all the earth.  We thank you that you are mighty enough to do whatever you want, and we thank you that you are gracious enough to always do whatever is good.  We thank you for using your might to promote justice in this world.  Thank you for NOT using your might to hammer us with a capricious, unrighteous vengeance.  We acknowledge and thank you for your might.  You give us every good reason to go to you for the help we so desperately need.  But I also thank you that you also love and that you use your might to work only in loving ways in our lives.  Give us eyes to see your love.  We can be so blind to it.  We often only see injustice, and we long for your love. Yet we miss it when you’ve put it right in front of our noses. We pray for the Howard family and for Jenna in particular. We pray that you would help her to see your love in the midst of her present trial.  We pray her parents as well that they might know a  loving king who is using his might in their lives to do what only he can do.  We pray the same for all in our church family who are hurting and who are hampered by their pain from seeing that you are a mighty King who loves.  Give us eyes to see Jesus, the one whom you have set up as King of all kings and Lover of all lovers on this earth.  Thank you that he stands for might, love, and justice all in one person. Fill us with your Just and Holy Spirit who alone can point us to him and give us those eyes to see him. Humbly, with grateful hearts, we offer these prayers in the name of our loving and mighty King, Jesus himself. Amen!
