Love is the opposite of many things. It is the opposite of hate. It is the opposite of lust. It is the opposite of apathy. It is the opposite of unforgiveness. And it is the opposite of selfish taking.
Love gives. God loved us, so he gave his son. Jesus loved us, so he gave his life. A husband is to love his wife and give himself for her.
I am reading through Jerry Bridges The Joy of Fearing Godwith my son-in-law. We meet together on Wednesday mornings to discuss the past week’s chapter. This week, we came across this gem of a quote from the author, Jerry Bridges. I share it with you as a reminder that may just come in handy for some of you who might be struggling to love somebody today.
Love is costly. To forgive in love costs us our sense of justice. To serve in love costs us time. To share in love costs us money. Every act of love costs us in some way, just as it cost God to love us. But we are to live a life of love just as Christ loved us, and gave Himself for us, at great cost to Himself.
